Meiner Stieftochter (15) fand das Buch klasse. Ihr Englisch-Niveau hat ausgereicht, das Buch gut zu verstehen. Nur wenige Sachen musste sie im Dictionary nachgooglen.

Ich mochte dieses Buch sehr gerne, weil es wirklich spannend und interessant war. Man hat immer mehr über die Charaktere erfahren und konnte selbst herausfinden, wer schuldig ist und inwiefern.

Ich habe nicht erwartet, dass mir das Buch so gut gefallen würde. Und gerade wegen dieser Überraschung bekommt es von mir 5 Sterne.Ich bin kein Fan von YA Büchern. Oft ist mir die Sprache zu schlicht und ich kann mich inzwischen schlecht in Teenagerprobleme reinfühlen. Als ich das Buch kaufte, habe ich gar nicht darüber nachgedacht, das die Hauptpersonen erst 17 sind, denn schließlich spielt die Story in der Highschool. Gedankenlos von mir. Da ich nun mal einmal hatte, musste ich es auch lesen. Aber von der ersten Seite an war ich voll drin in der Geschichte. Hier wird eine klassische Mystery-Story erzählt und man weiß bis zum Schluss nicht, wer der Täter ist oder was wirklich passiert ist. Ich werde gerne von einer Story überrascht und das ist hier wirklich gelungen.Es ist fast ein wenig peinlich, das mir das Buch so gut gefallen hat. Es fährt alle klassischen High School Klischees auf und manches sah ich auch schon von weitem kommen. Auch gibt es die typischen Liebesprobleme unter den Figuren. Aber irgendwie hat das Buch funktioniert. Die Charaktere sind sympathisch und glaubhaft und die Story hat mich gefesselt. Sie wird nur aus der Perspektive der 4 Schüler erzählt. Es gibt keinerlei Einsicht in die Polizeiarbeit. Es ist ein klassischer whodunit. Es ist wirklich schwer herauszufinden, was passiert ist, so dass die Überraschung zum Schluss wirklich gelungen ist. Da das Buch mir einige entspannte Lesestunden bereitet hat und mich so unverhofft auf dem richtigen Fuß erwischte, vergebe ich 5 Sterne.

Now I’m extremely tired and look like I’ve spent the longest weekend on a festival without a tent to sleep in.Anyways.In case you lived under a rock for the last couple of weeks and missed the fantastic synopsis of the book, here we go:Highschool students Nate, Addy, Bronwyn, Cooper and Simon end up in detention. It becomes very clear that something isn’t right. The whole reason for having detention seems to be a misunderstanding…or a set up?Things get worse when one student, Simon, dies. The others are witnesses turned suspects. Each of them has a secret to hide but the question remains: who killed Simon?We have Nate, the criminal.Addy, the princess.Bronwyn, the nerd.Cooper, the jock.Sounds familiar?The Author, Karen McManus was inspired by The Breakfast Club. Four kids who have nothing in common wind up in detention. I loved the idea especially how Karen spiced things up with a murder.The story is fast paced (extra Like for that!) and told from the four main character’s point of views. Nate, Addy, Bronwyn and Cooper are very diverse people and come from different backgrounds. I never had the feeling that one of them were left behind in the description or the story itself. Karen managed to sprinkle her magic on everyone - including me. I was SO into the story and couldn’t stop guessing who the real suspect is.While there’s a murder case to solve, the story isn’t too focused on the crime/thriller section. For all the romantic hearts out here, Karen mixed some of that into the story as well. We have a well placed rollercoaster ride of mixed emotions. From love to hate to jealousy and pain. There are some exhilarating ups and heart-wrenching downs.All those emotions contributed to the development of every character. AND I LOVED IT!To sum it up:The Breakfast Club meets Gossip Girl and How to Get Away With Murder - haha!I can totally see this as an upcoming Netflix series or film. Finger’s crossed.
"One of us is lying" hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Ich habe es in weniger als 2 Tagen durchgelesen und war begeistert vom Schreibstil der Autorin und von den verschiedenen Sichtweisen der Hauptcharaktere. Die 4 wachsen einem wirklich sehr ans Herz und man möchte sie garnicht gehen lassen am Ende. Am meisten identifizieren konnte ich mich wohl mit Bronwyn und auch die Verbindung mit Nate fand ich sehr spannend und "musste" einfach sein für dieses Genre. Mit den anderen beiden, Cooper und Addy, konnte ich mich anfangs nicht so anfreunden, doch die Geheimnisse, welche nach und nach offenbart werden und besonders Addy's Veränderung haben diesbezüglich meine Meinung geändert. Simon fand ich von Anfang an unsympathisch und auch die unterschiedlichen Reaktionen auf seinen Tod waren spannend. Das Ende ist, nun ja, eher schwach und auch recht vorhersehbar, um ehrlich zu sein.Alles in allem fand ich das Buch toll und würde es jedem Fan von Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars und möglicherwese auch vom Film "der Breakfast Club" nur empfehlen.
